Download the .png file. The output is lossless - but note that converting from JPG preserves the original JPG's artefacts.
JPEG is a lossy format - every time an image is re-saved as a JPEG, compression artifacts accumulate. If you plan to edit an image across multiple sessions, or pass it through several tools in sequence, starting from a JPEG means each step compounds the quality loss. Converting to PNG once, before you start editing, locks in the current quality level as a lossless baseline. Subsequent edits and re-saves from the PNG produce no further degradation.
PNG is also the correct output format when you need to add a transparent background. JPEG does not support transparency, so any design work that involves compositing - placing an object on a new background, creating overlays, or preparing assets for video production - requires PNG. Converting the source image to PNG first gives you a format that properly handles the alpha channel in subsequent steps. Once the editing is done, you can compress the PNG to reduce file size before final delivery.
Converting a JPEG to PNG will always produce a larger file, because PNG stores every pixel exactly rather than discarding redundant data. For a typical photograph, the PNG will be three to eight times larger than the original JPEG. This is the expected trade-off for lossless storage. The extra size is worthwhile for editing workflows, but for finished images intended for web or email delivery, convert back to JPG or WebP once editing is complete.
