Passport photo requirements by country

Different countries have different specifications for passport and visa photos. Getting the dimensions wrong means your application photo will be rejected. The most common size requirements are 35×45 mm for many European and South Asian passports, and 2×2 inches (51×51 mm) for US documents. This tool includes presets for the most common requirements so you do not need to calculate pixel dimensions manually. For custom sizes not listed, the resize tool accepts exact pixel dimensions.

All presets are based on standard 300 dpi output, which is the resolution required for printed passport photos. Digital submissions for online applications may accept a wider range, but using 300 dpi pixel dimensions ensures your photo prints correctly if needed.

About background colour

Most passports and visas require a plain white background. Some biometric systems and specific countries accept light blue. This tool fills the area around your image with your chosen background colour. If your original photo was taken against a non-white background, you will need to remove the background in a separate step before using this tool. Cropping tightly around the subject first also helps ensure the face fills the frame correctly before applying dimensions and white fill.
